Will the Xpanders™ tips bend?
As with any thin, atraumatic-type instrument, the tips can bend if used improperly.
How should I use Xpanders™?
Engage the sulcus and PDL at any of the 4 corners of the tooth. Keep the instrument tip upright at a 30 degree angle with the long axis of the tooth. Push and twist the instrument repeatedly until bucco-lingual movement is achieved. See video here.
What should I avoid?
Do not bend the Xpanders™ backward, like a shovel. Do not approach the tooth from a direct sideways 90 degree angle, like you would using a straight, conventional elevator. These angles and motions will bend the tips.
Are there any other suggestions and tips for using Xpanders™?
Yes! Alternate between mesio-distal movement with the old-school straight elevator and bucco-lingual movement with Xpanders™. Alternating, using each instrument for 30 seconds or less, gives superior results.
The tips look sharp… Won’t they damage my temps?
No. Provisionals can still be used after removal. TempOff® will only leave a small indentation on the temporary.
Why is TempOff better than hemostats?
TempOff® will not slip off of the temporary like hemostats do.
Why is TempOff® better than rubber tipped instruments?
Rubber tipped instruments must engage the temporary at the margin – near the gum line. This is the weakest, thinnest part of the temporary and the most sensitive area of the tooth. With TempOff®, the higher incisal positioning allows for greater efficiency and less force onto the tooth. Force is transferred to the temporary, not the tooth.
Can the gripps be sterilized?
No. They are disposable. Each order comes with 60 grips.
How do I remove my stuck permanent crowns?
Use Crown Gripps™ only on stuck, non-cemented crowns. Engage the crown all the way down to the gum line and squeeze very lightly to lock on mechanically under the crest of contour. Gently rock the instrument back and forth to free up the crown.
How do I install the green Crown Gripps™?
Simply push one sleeve onto each beak. Push the end slowly until you first feel the metal beak, then stop. The gripps should now be perfectly aligned with the beak tips.
